Summary of the issues discussed:

The meeting included a presentation from Hannah Swirsky, Samaritans Public Affairs Manager. The presentation focussed on Samaritans work on the Online Safety Bill and their policy recommendations to the UK Government. Maggy Corkhill Co-Alc Alliance Project Co-ordinator presented on the work of the Co-Alc Alliance and Cocaethylene related suicides/sudden deaths and how more needs to be done to raise awareness of this issue.

Actions from the meeting were for Jayne Bryant MS to put Maggy in touch with the CPG on substance misuse and also for Jayne to write to the Deputy Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing to ask for more research into the impact of cocaethylene.

Deputy Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing, Lynne Neagle MS attended the meeting and provided an update on the development of the new suicide and self-harm prevention strategy. Shane Mills, Clinical Director for the National Collaborative Commissioning Unit gave a presentation to the group on the NHS 111 press 2 mental health support service.

Actions from the meeting were for Matt Downton from Welsh Government to speak to Jayne Bryant MS about how the CPG could support with the development of the suicide and self-harm prevention strategy when it is out for consultation.

This meeting included the AGM for the group. Jayne Bryant MS was re-elected as Chair and Samaritans Cymru were confirmed to continue as secretariat.

The meeting included a presentation from Emma Gooding, Samaritans Policy and Communications Manager who discussed the latest Office of National Statistics suicide statistics for Wales. Claire Cotter, NHS Executive National Programme Lead for Suicide and self-harm prevention gave a presentation to the group discussing strategic objectives, data and research.
